Yes, I could have been a judge but I never had the Latin, never had the Latin for the judging. I just never had sufficient of it to get through the rigorous judging exams. They're noted for their rigour. People came staggering out saying 'My God what a rigorous exam' - and so I became a miner instead. A coal miner. I managed to get through the mining exams - they're not very rigorous. They only ask you one question. They say 'Who are you?', and I got 75% for that.

black and white, my favourite! good shot Maria.
Gorgeous, Maria. You certainly have the eye for black and white.
Yes, this has all the poignancy that the end of the summer brings. Lovely mood suggested in the solitary picnic bench.
Gorgeous, Maria.
Although your picture suggests a certain poignancy, emptiness, and slight sadness -- which I can understand -- I've always felt energized by this time of year.
I just today was sitting on my front porch finishing up a novel TRANQUILLY enjoying this stretch of weather we've been having -- absolutely heavenly and so typical of that time between summer and fall. Almost Indian-Summerish. Crisply breezy without being chilly; clear, bright skies; a few leaves just beginning to flutter down, longer shadows; a feeling of newness (in the sense of new school terms, life paths)-- which brings with it a strange and irrepressible feeling of rebirth, optimism, youthfulness and excitement. The rest is simply too intangible to describe.
Anyway, this has without a doubt always been my fave time of year. It's a time of year that feels exactly like the song, "There's something in the air". I love it!
Hope you enjoy your autumn to the fullest!
