Yes, I could have been a judge but I never had the Latin, never had the Latin for the judging. I just never had sufficient of it to get through the rigorous judging exams. They're noted for their rigour. People came staggering out saying 'My God what a rigorous exam' - and so I became a miner instead. A coal miner. I managed to get through the mining exams - they're not very rigorous. They only ask you one question. They say 'Who are you?', and I got 75% for that.

Who would ever have believed a London park could be so still. No people, nothing except the park benches. Lovely, Maria! I like the sense of solitude and atmosphere in both the colour and black and white. In fact, the colour photo has so much of the grey winter's day, it looks more like a water colour painting with a delicate wash!
Hi Val,
Yeah, people is something you really notice in London. They are EVERYWHERE. :-) To be serious, I guess my timing was lucky as it was a tuesday morning, so those with work would have been at work and those without might have been late risers or discouraged by the somewhat foggy weather. There were some joggers around but not too many to make it impossible to capture that mood of winter stillness. I think winter's stillness in parks is a unique atmosphere in that there you have the contrast to the bustle of life which you expect parks to be full of. Forests are still in winter as well, but they are are always still in the human sense of the word.
MY reaction was the same as Val's- where is everyone?
Beautiful photos, Maria. One of the reasons I love London so much is the proliferation of parks throughout, something Toronto has imitated quite nicely.
xx
