Happy New Year to everyone! I hope 2009 will bring good and wonderful things!

"Finally, the sun came out": an ode to optimism. 2008's economic gloom spread around the world like a pandemic but I have to let you know, for what it's worth, I tried to kick it's butt a few times.
I hope 2009 is better for all, and I wish you only success in 2009, Maria. Been a long time since we 'spoke'. I used to live in Bethnal Green. One of my landlords, called Betty, used to call me Shamus 2. Because I was Irish, you know. In total their were seven Shamus's. I guess Betty was our Snow White.
Good luck, Maria,
Paul.
Hi Maria, the sun in these photos is like a tonic. I love this set! Each of the buildings has something special, some quirky quality, and you see so much of that in London if you stop to look. You clearly did! Lovely stuff. Still, my favourite of all is the last one of the chimney pots. They make me feel really homesick!
Paul, You are right about the note of optimism Maria offers, and I love the notion of Snow Betty and the Seven Shamus's..;-)
Happy New Year Maria, I wish you a wonderful 2009! ah!! the sun....don't cha love it!! :)
Hi Paul,
A long time indeed! Snow White and the Seven Shamuses in Bethnal Green. I rather like that. :-) Hope you had a good New Year celebration!
Hi Val,
I really love those chimney pots I must say, even though I'm an outsider in London and there are no such things in Finland. They have CHARACTER.
Hi Grace,
Happy New Year to you too! Hope you had a great celebration. You are dead right about the sun. :-)
Ah those cheerful Brits! Always walking down the road whistling or smiling.
And I LOVE the grass growing on the roof in that first pic.
